I had the most magical, eye-opening experience this past weekend. 30 very diverse individuals were chosen to attend a camp located in Marble Falls, TX as a part of Tazo Tea’s #BrewtheUnexpected campaign. This camp wasn’t your ordinary camp, it was hosted by Rupaul’s Drag Race Legend and Netflix Dancing Queen, Alyssa Edwards. We served looks, we played games, we sang songs around the campfire. But the main thing I’ve taken away from this weekend was learning how to inspire and support others to step out of their comfort zones and be the best they can be. There were many stories of everyday struggles that aren’t often talked about in the media. Those stories ranging from cancer recovery and body insecurities to being bullied for being different and trying to fit in. The campers at Camp Tazo (including myself) were able to build this loving community for each other and it’s just magic! We currently are thinking of ways to go further than Camp Tazo, to create buzz around these struggles, to let others know that there are people out there that are going through the same thing. We want to create an outlet for those who are struggling in the same ways we have.

I honestly don’t know if Tazo Tea knew what they were doing when they decided to bring 30 hardworking creative minds together. They may have created a BEAST! So continue to follow the hashtags #BrewTheUnexpected and #CampTazo because who knows what the campers will decide to do next. Also, Tazo is starting to release the badges on their Instagram story. Check it out and participate!
